Our organization is focused on Chongqing Municipality. We are available to assist adoptees in their search from any district of Chongqing and we can advise and direct adoptees to the appropriate searcher or organization from all regions of China.
The Roots of Love will also finance any birth parents DNA test from any Province in China.
The Roots of Love works with multiple professional searchers in China. When a searcher finds a biological relative who needs to take a DNA test, we cover the costs and test them through autosomal testing (23Mofang which get upload to GEDmatch database).
We are also working on ways to be able to help you enter adoptees DNA into the National Reunion database. If needed, we can also provide a STR/paternity/CODIS-type test.
No matter which database is used, adoptees will always receive birth relative contact information for free, should a close match be made. This is our promise to you!
More information about the process and what steps to follow for a birth family search can be found on our Searching page.
During our June 2024 trip we were able to put our posters on this old One Child Policy propaganda board. You can see them next to the child leg.
At the end of 2021, we organized our first Chongqing-wide search with one of our partnered private searchers. Our searcher visited 12 districts and counties for two months, and we were able to DNA test over 20 birth families. From this search, we have matched a couple of adoptees with their families. The remaining families are waiting for their match! You can view them on our public spreadsheet.
From May 2021 to 2023, we have tested over 50 Chinese birth families. We not only DNA test relatives that our searchers find, but we also will cover the testing fees for any birth family that contacts us directly or is requested by an adoptee or adoptive family. Finding and matching birth relatives is truly a collective community effort.
June 2022: We hosted two unique adoptee-led conferences with adoptee speakers in reunion with birth relatives.
September 2022: We, along with our friends at Nanchang Project, held two workshops at Chinese Heritage Camp in Colorado. The topic was how to search for birth relatives in China, and the slideshow presentation can be accessed at the top of our Searching page.
June 2024: We are finally back to Chongqing on the road of rural Dianjiang searching for birth parents with a crew from the AFP (Agence France Press).
We search for 5 days in the country side of Dianjiang, visited 15 villages, gave and post 100 of search posters and were able to test 3 new birth families.
